150 Years of Beautiful Structures and Defects

Center for Global Science (Prof. Omar Yaghi, UC Berkeley) and Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) leadership are pleased to announce a University of California, Berkeley (US) - Center for Molecular and NanoArchitecture (VN) symposium, titled "150 Years of Beautiful Structures and Defects" in celebration of the 20th anniversary of VNU-HCM and in honor of Professors Michael O'Keeffe and Osamu Terasaki. Distinguished international scientists and Vietnamese researchers will engage in a two-day symposium intended to report on recent advances and progress made in structural chemistry. The symposium will take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on November 15-16, 2014 under the co-sponsorship of MANAR and UC Berkeley.

The symposium on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and similarly related materials is organized to honor Profs. Michael O'Keeffe and Osamu Terasaki immense contributions to the scientific community's understanding of chemical structure and defects. The symposium seeks to strengthen the relationship between Vietnamese scientists and international colleagues and provides a forum for the discussion of recent advances in materials science and inorganic chemistry research. The goals are to engage the Vietnamese scientific community and to foster collaborations in the field of porous, crystalline materials.

Nhung and Thach to go to UC Berkeley

Ph.D. students, Nhung Nguyen and Thach Tu, have been invited by Prof. Omar Yaghi to spend up to a year in his research lab at University of California, Berkeley. Nhung's research will focus on developing novel ZIFs for cabon dioxide capture applications and Thach's research will focus on making conductive MOFs. Good luck Nhung and Thach!

Nhung publishes paper in Angewandte!

Ph.D. student, Nhung Nguyen, publishes her work on selective carbon dioxide capture under humid conditions by ZIFs in Angewandte Chemie International Journal (Impact Factor 13.7). The materials developed by Nhung have exciting potential for industrial applications. This is Nhung's first paper and the second paper from MANAR this year. Great work! You can find her paper here: DOI: 10.1002/anie.201403980R2

Long Ngo successfully defends M.Sc. thesis and graduates. Congratulations!

Long successfully defended his Master of Chemistry thesis titled, "Synthesis of Metal-Organic Frameworks from Azo-Compounds." Long will spend the summer researching at MANAR and is looking into pursuing a Ph.D. Congrats Master Long!
